Part 1 - 30 HoursYin-Yang Energy Balancing & Chair-Based Alignment Techniques

  • Identify common senior energy patterns (fatigue, low vitality, insomnia) and balance them using Yin-Yang yoga. 
  • Use deep, static Yin stretches to ease stiffness, relax fascia, and calm the nervous system.。
  • Apply slow, rhythmic Yang movements to boost circulation, energy, and confidence.
  • Adjust Yin-Yang practices based on age, strength, and health conditions like hypertension or osteoporosis.
  • Use chairs to support both passive and active poses, improving stability and reducing fall risk.
  • Learn basic meridian pathways and how they relate to senior conditions like poor digestion or joint pain. 
  • Guide simple tapping and acupressure for better circulation and self-care awareness. 
  • Use specific poses and breathwork to activate targeted meridians and support organ function.

Course Description :

This course is designed to help yoga teachers support the physical and energetic needs of older adults through a blend of Yin-Yang yoga, meridian stimulation, and chair-assisted alignment. Trainees will learn how to balance passive and active movements to ease tension, boost circulation, calm the nervous system, and improve sleep. The course also covers safe use of chairs in poses, basic meridian theory, and simple tapping and breathing techniques to enhance seniors’ self-care, confidence, and mind-body connection.

Conditions :

**To be eligible for certification, students must attend at least 85% of the course and complete all required assignments. Upon fulfillment, they will receive the “YACEP-30: Senior Yin-Yang Yoga & Chair-Based Alignment” certificate issued by Hong Kong Yoga Academy. Part 2 - 35 Hours Mobility Enhancement and Teaching with Props

  • Learn to sequence chair yoga into rhythmic, flowing classes that boost confidence and engagement.
  • Use wall ropes to assist in poses like backbends and squats, enhancing extension while easing joint pressure.
  • Apply resistance bands safely to strengthen shoulders, core, and lower limbs.
  • Train joint mobility (neck, shoulders, hips, knees) with dynamic, small-range movements to prevent stiffness and support daily function.
  • Design gentle cardio sequences with breath-led movement to improve circulation and heart-lung capacity.
  • Develop drills focused on “awakening” rather than challenging, reducing risk of injury.。
  • Recognize limited mobility signs and offer appropriate variations and modifications.
  • Use props (chair, block, strap, bolster) to support safe, stable movement for different needs.
  • Learn hands-on assist basics with emphasis on safety, minimal pressure, and clear intention.。
  • Build awareness and respect around physical touch, including consent and personal boundaries.

Part 3 - 35 Hours Senior Yoga Teaching Skills

  • Understand common physical challenges in older adults—such as high blood pressure, osteoporosis, arthritis, balance issues, post-surgery recovery, and chronic fatigue—and how they affect yoga safety.
  • Learn to plan classes preventively, adjust poses, and offer safe modifications based on conditions like hearing/vision decline or joint limitations.
  • Master pre-class assessments, movement-level categorization, prop setup, and space planning to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Develop observational skills to recognize signs of physical or emotional strain (e.g. labored breathing, tense posture, unfocused attention) and adapt the class in real time.
  • Use encouraging language and real-life movement scenarios to enhance relevance, reduce resistance, and support student motivation.
  • Learn to design energizing and enjoyable classes to boost physical engagement, mood, and participation through rhythmic, fun sequences.   
  • Design functional yoga classes that strengthen the core, improve mobility and balance, and help older adults maintain independence in daily life.  
  • Offer breath-based, mindfulness-centered, and restorative sessions to build inner calm, trust in the body, and emotional resilience—ideal for students facing stress, grief, or isolation.  

Course Description :

This module equips instructors with practical skills to teach safe, adaptive, and engaging yoga classes for older adults. It covers common physical and mental challenges among seniors—such as hypertension, arthritis, fatigue, and emotional changes—and teaches how to assess needs, modify poses, and use props effectively. The course also explores three class styles: energizing, functional strength, and restorative mind-body practices. Teachers will develop confidence in class planning, observation, and communication to support seniors with care and competence.

Important Notes :

* Only open to students who have completed RYT-200 certification.

** This course is an elective module of the RYT-300 program. It can be taken on its own for a 100-Hour Senior Yoga Teacher Certificate (US Yoga Alliance certified), or counted toward RYT-300 elective hours. Completing all 300 hours qualifies for RYT-500 registration.

** Students must attend at least 85% of each part of the course, complete all assignments, and pass the final assessment in order to receive the certificate. (Special leave requests are subject to school approval.)

**  Part 1,2,3 Each part (Part 1, 2, and 3) qualifies for a Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certificate issued by the US Yoga Alliance.
